BISMI RESTAURANT
848 Sydney Road, Brunswick 9386 8611
It's clean, it's lean and the prices are peachy keen. This little shop, on a quiet stretch of Sydney road, drags in budget-wise Brunswick folk seeking generous serves at astonishingly low prices. The menu includes dishes from Malaysia and Singapore, but it's the Indian one's that work best. Try a golden biryani or murtabak - a flaky, egg and lamb filled roti bread. Diners can watch their roti breads being streached, flipped and folded. All the meat used is halal but there are plenty of flesh-free options. In fact, on sundays, the kitchen extends the range, offering vadai (lentil 'doughnuts') and dosa (crepes) of various kinds.
