There's cheap, and then there's Bismi. More hawker stall than cafe, it serves up bargain priced, home style Asian food to a mixed clientele. Bearded Muslim clerics, giggling overseas students and couples saving for their first home drop in for the live roti-making performance before dipping one of Bismi's delicious flaky breads into curry - perhaps a chicken korma or goat masala. Others happily mix cuisines, ordering Malay nasi-goreng with ikan bilis (dried fish), and finishing with Indian gulab jamun. All meat dishes are halal, and a special Sunday menu of delectable dosa and vada caters to vegetarians.
